The company failed to mitigate the risk of illegal logging when placing a sideboard on the market which had been imported from India. It had previously failed to comply with a Notice of Remedial Action and a warning letter. Lombok pleaded guilty to the charges and was ordered to pay a £5,000 plus costs totaling £8,121.
The regulations prohibit the sale of wood products that have been illegally harvested and require companies to maintain an appropriate due diligence system. They are enforced in the UK by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Regulatory Delivery team.
