REACH Enforcement Project reveals 18% non-compliance with REACH restrictions

The types of products inspected included textiles, jewellery, plastic material, glues and spray paints, brazing fillers, toys and childcare articles. 39% of products whose origin was not marked were found to be non-compliant. The highest non-compliance rates were in respect of phthalates in toys, cadmium in brazing fillers and asbestos.
Legal actions were initiated in respect of 858 products. Actions included written advice, product withdrawal and prohibitions. 263 sanctions were applied including 149 criminal complaints and 72 fines.
